Yaesu FT2DR UI bugs fixes firmware

[FT2DR] I couldn't see that any UI bugs were fixed in this release or features added

Here are the issues I reported 5 months ago, and their status after the new firmware updates were installed last night. Disappointed that nothing was fixed:

This one is very annoying - probably the most annoying of all. Even though APRS is set to mute, the audio of the transmitted status beacon comes through the speaker. It can be controlled with the volume control, but doing so lowers the volume of the Band A frequency. So essentially, if I want to quietly monitor my local repeater, I have to deal with listening to an annoying packet from the FT2DR that I should not have to hear. Others have commented on this as well. This has been confirmed and reported to the engineers for study.

No change. Audio of the transmitted beacon comes through the speaker at the level that the volume control is set to.

Yaesu FT-2DR Issues

I have had issues with the FT-2DR locking up when taking pictures with the camera mic.  After I take a couple the radio locks up and has to be turned off then back on and the pictures are lost.  Just another bug in the Fusion system that they hopefully will get to one of these days.

Thanks, that is part of my problem, although it appears to be more than that. I started to make a long dissertation on the problem, but now that I know there is at least one more person aware, I'll keep it brief.
1. Picture display per page 108 of the manual doesn't work.
2. Selecting between pictures when you have two or more stored doesn't work. Up/down arrows don't work, tapping a log entry may take more than 30 seconds to respond. TOP may or may not work.
3. DEL doesn't work or works strangely (tap DEL, then select entry to delete).
4. As you described, cycling power will lose the pictures, but in my case, it filled the log entry with blank entries. Deleting one (which may be difficult) will delete all of them.
Similar issues occur with text messages.
I imagine all their software guys are working on fixing WIRES-X, but hopefully they'll be able to address some of the Fusion radio issues soon.

YAESU FT2DR GPS Log Function

Has anybody tried to use the GPS Log function. If so what mapping program did you use to look at the track log. If you had to convert the file how did you convert it.

YAESU FT2DR Battery drain when FT2 is off?

Anyone noticed that the battery drains when the FT2 is OFF? I have charged my radio twice in the CD41 charger, removed it from the charger and the next day the battery is dead.

I have stepped through the menu and the only thing I see running in the background is the clock. GPS was turned on so I turned it off but wouldn't think it would run when the radio is off.

Any ideas?

Answer :
My experience over the past two months is the same as Bill's.  I am very pleased with the power consumption.

Charging the HT  with the stock supplied charger allows me to scan the four local Fusion repeaters, 18 hours a day for three FULL days before needing an overnight recharge.  If I leave the radio powered off, no significant drain occurs.

That's significantly better than the old FT1D THAT my friends have, whose GPS gobbles power.

I suspect there may be a problem with your non-standard charger/battery combination.

You can try the program for 2 weeks to check that it works on your equipment but you cannot write to the radio until it is registered.

FT-2DR/ DE and Programming-Software

FT-2DR DE and Programming-Software

Does anyone of you know which software will be necessary to configure / programm this radio?

MARS CAP mod - How did you do the MARS CAP mod?

caveat actor. youtube has videos; they're pretty much all the same method. pop off the round black rubber plug under the battery, hold HT upside down while you *very* carefully chip off the surface mount resistor with something appropriate e.g. a tiny flat-tip jeweller's screwdriver. (upside down so the smt falls out of the casing). put the rubber plug back in, re-attach the battery pack. 3-finger salute (hold down the back/disp/band keys at the same time) while you power it on again, to hard-reset the radio. congratulations! note: this is irreversible and voids your warranty. it may also be illegal, depending on your jurisdiction. perform the modification (or not) at your own risk.

[FT2DR] Software

Noticed RT Systems updated their FT2D software last night while attempting to get the radio re-programmed using the RT software.

I was in the field, no available RT Programming Software, trying to find a setting that would mute the extraordinarily long squelch tail of a Fusion Repeater while in use as a conventional analog repeater. At the time I did not realize the repeater's extra long squelch tail was caused by the repeater, NOT my radio, but learned later that was the case. In my attempt to kill the long tail, I did something that caused the radio to lock up while in the menu mode. Nothing I did would allow the radio to back out of the menu. I couldn't even turn it off. After removing the battery for 10 seconds it would reset but again exhibit the same problem when back in the menu. Then I learned of the issue with the repeater and thought no worries, it's not my radio. I'll just reprogram the radio with the RT software once home. That's when I saw an update was available for the RT Software.

The radio however, is causing me some concern. Why it would lock up like that is something I need to research. Has anyone heard of or experienced this? The radio is stock with the exception of the MARS/CAP mod.

[FT2DR] Radio failure

I also experienced the radio locking up. Nothing I did would get it out of the menu-couldn't even turn it off-required the removal of the battery for 10 seconds. The radio was NOT connected to the computer at the time. However, mine will turn on and function after replacing the battery. Provided I do not access the menu again. If I do, I'm back to removing the battery. The radio is stock except for the MARS/CAP mod.

I figure there is a software glitch or some type of improper manual programming I used that got me in this mess. I tried reloading my known good file with RT Systems programming software to reset it. It was then I noticed the radio was not getting programmed the way the software program should be programming it (or wants to program it). Bank linking was being ignored when scanning, allowing everything I had programmed to be scanned. (I have a bank I call NOAA WEATHER with the 162MHz freqs. It's not included in the linking but the radio scans and stops on my local NOAA freq.). Checking the radio's settings manually (no connection to the computer) shows that bank SHOULD be locked out. But it's not. I am further researching this issue.

My next steps are to first see if I can reprogram with Yeasu software. and then RT software. I want to see if either will correct. If not, move on to my next step which is to again attempt the same with both software packages after I check for and install any Firmware/Software updates that may be available. The results of these steps are attempts at isolating either software programming packages as the cause. If all fails, a hard reset, returning the radio to factory default settings and then reloading my known good file will be attempted. I will post these results here, hopefully later today.
