[FT2DR] APRS beaconing
Just joined this group yesterday and I need some assistance with making the FT2DR beacon properly on APRS. I plan on using this radio to track my progress as I hike in the mountains and send the info to the APRS system if possible.
I've been trying to set the parameters to make this radio send a beacon but so far it doesn't seem to be doing so. I am receiving APRS messages and such and they display on the screen but I cannot get it to smart beacon or manually beacon for some reason.

I have had issues with the FT-2DR locking up when taking pictures with the camera mic. After I take a couple the radio locks up and has to be turned off then back on and the pictures are lost. Just another bug in the Fusion system that they hopefully will get to one of these days.

Thanks, that is part of my problem, although it appears to be more than that. I started to make a long dissertation on the problem, but now that I know there is at least one more person aware, I'll keep it brief.
1. Picture display per page 108 of the manual doesn't work.
2. Selecting between pictures when you have two or more stored doesn't work. Up/down arrows don't work, tapping a log entry may take more than 30 seconds to respond. TOP may or may not work.
3. DEL doesn't work or works strangely (tap DEL, then select entry to delete).
4. As you described, cycling power will lose the pictures, but in my case, it filled the log entry with blank entries. Deleting one (which may be difficult) will delete all of them.
Similar issues occur with text messages.
I imagine all their software guys are working on fixing WIRES-X, but hopefully they'll be able to address some of the Fusion radio issues soon.

YAESU FT2DR GPS Log Function
Has anybody tried to use the GPS Log function. If so what mapping
program did you use to look at the track log. If you had to convert the
file how did you convert it.
YAESU FT2DR Battery drain when FT2 is off?
Anyone
noticed that the battery drains when the FT2 is OFF? I have charged my
radio twice in the CD41 charger, removed it from the charger and the
next day the battery is dead.
I
have stepped through the menu and the only thing I see running in the
background is the clock. GPS was turned on so I turned it off but
wouldn't think it would run when the radio is off.
Any ideas?

My experience over the past two months is the same as Bill's. I am very pleased with the power consumption.Charging the HT with the stock supplied charger allows me to scan the four local Fusion repeaters, 18 hours a day for three FULL days before needing an overnight recharge. If I leave the radio powered off, no significant drain occurs.
That's significantly better than the old FT1D THAT my friends have, whose GPS gobbles power.
I suspect there may be a problem with your non-standard charger/battery combination.

Edit Home memories
Edit PMS memories
Edit VFOs
Change the values in the FT2D's menus and APRS/GPS settings
Print memories

What Do You Think About The YAESU FT2DR
Finally received the radio last week. Still looking for a fusion
repeater connection. Meanwhile, it has been FM all the way for me.
Prior to receiving the FT2DR, I purchased the WIRES-X interface so that I can easily get 5 watt LOS stations and repeater stations onto the Fusion net.
Well, the WIRES-X comes with two cables, a 10pin din to 10pin din, and a 10pin din to 6pin din. Neither works with the
FT2DR - yes, I'm trying to connect an HT to WIRES-X. I'm waiting on a few cables that I hope can be used to go from the
WIRES-X to the FT2DR. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
Meanwhile, I like the touch screen idea, but I hate the contrast. It is like the screen is faded, and there is nothing you can do to adjust the screen for improvements.
I also have the VX8DR - I really like the VX8DR, but again, the orange screen is hard to see. I wish Yaesu does something to make the screens better - sheesh!
Most of us can't see like a teenager
I like the FT2DR APRS management better than the VX8DR. When you get finished playing with the FT2DR, you will forget how to use the VX8DR
The one problem I can't identify is why I can't get my APRS movement to show on aprs.fi. Also, I can see several APRS beacons coming into the radio, but
I can't get a round robin to come back into the radio from my own call sign.
The FT2DR does not transmit on FRS and GMRS like the VX8DR. I can never remember my GMRS call sign
Right now, I'm still trying to learn how to connect the phone to a fusion repeater. I'll connect it to WIRES-X if I can get the HT connection figured out.
You can basically figure most of the phone out in a day if you just read the book straight through.
The FT2DR radio looks clean looking, while the VX8DR looks super complicated like it can probably connect to anything.

I thought I'd post an updated version of my FT2-DR/DE review:
The hardware feels very sturdy. The FT2D is slightly higher, but a bit slimmer than its predecessor. There's a new volume dial on the top which is very welcome. The second is of course the touchscreen, which sounds amazing at first glance. However you'll quickly come to realize that the screen is way too small to press anything but the biggest buttons when on the go, and worse, the display isn't too amazing. The contrast is even worse than that of the ID-5100, which is saying something. Seriously, when you get the device the first thing you'll try to do is to up the contrast, but no, that only makes everything go darker. The optimum viewing angle is about - 45 degrees, i.e. you have to look upwards from below to get the optimal contrast. The message LED is now on the top, which is actually sensible considering this thing usually clips on your belt. Reception is good, the speaker is definitely adequately loud if needed. The signal reports I got were very positive. The battery clip has been changed, it's more sturdy than on the FT1D.
If you're coming from the FT1D like I do, then I have some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is, this is very much like the FT1D. The bad news is, this is very much like the FT1D
